This morning, we had a bit of time to sleep in after yesterdays early wake up call. After about an hour drive, we arrived in the historic city of Pompeii. We had a bit of time to explore the area around the city before entering the ruins of the city of Pompeii. A lot of people bought souvenirs from the souvenir shops in the square. Many people also got gelato or slushies to cool down before going on the tour of the ruins. The tour of the ruins of Pompeii was amazing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and it was very interesting to learn about the city before it was destroyed and about what happened during the eruption. It was interesting to hear about how none of the people knew what was happening when Mount Vesuvius erupted and how eventually, the city was covered in 20 feet of volcanic ash!
After visiting these historic ruins, we headed to lunch to enjoy a delicious, Italian meal. Everyone was given a choice of pizza, pasta, or fried calamari, which all looked very tasty. After lunch, we hopped on the bus for our three hour drive to Rome. The drive was long, but beautiful as we had views of the Italian countryside the entire way.
Once in Rome, we went to a traditional, Fraschetta dinner. The dinner had four courses: Bread, two pasta dishes, and desert. All of the dishes tasted great and after dinner, we headed to the hotel for the night. We got to the hotel fairly late, but we didn't have to wake up early the next morning, so that worked out great! Once at the hotel, everyone headed to their rooms and went to bed.
